HELLO! WE ARE SO GLAD YOU FOUND US
PURPOSE The hounds at CċSpéire are Home Raised in a loving and active environment, not in a chain-link kennel facility. Puppies have a play area as they grow and are transitioned into the larger yard with the older hounds as appropriate. We strive to maintain or improve our breed by following the tenets which are outlined in the Breed Standard of Excellence. Our hounds thrive on a Back-to-Nature diet of ingredients for their good health and for their proved longevity. As a point of interest, one of our hounds, StóirÍn, currently stands at #1 in the Irish Wolfhound Club of America’s

Longevity Study. Our goal is to produce hounds exceptional in their loving temperament which is enhanced by our commitment to retaining the “gentle when stoked; fierce when provoked” heritage which prevails in this ancient wolf-hunter breed.
A LITTLE ABOUT US Over the years we have provided puppies and the resources to families so they learn how to live with a Gentle Giant. We are breeders of Irish Wolfhounds in residential Anaheim, CA - small enough to provide daily, lifelong care and love to our puppies and adults; large enough to handle any activity or social interaction with our hounds in a broad sense. We do have puppies available occasionally, however our main purpose in breeding is to produce as perfect a hound as possible based on The Standard of
Excellence - our Canine Bible, so-to-speak. We strive for gentle temperaments, sociability, longevity, healthy genes and protective nature. That may seem in conflict, but all an Irish Wolfhound needs to do in most conflicts, is stand up.

AS A FAMILY PET the Irish Wolfhound is unique and outstanding. In general, they get along well with other dogs, but should not be raised with an aggressive breed. The Irish Wolfhound learns the habits of other breeds they are raised with.
IW puppies housebreak rather quickly; a crate can be helpful, especially overnight. However, while crating can be a useful housebreaking tool, they should never be crated routinely for long periods of time such as during work hours. Long hours of crating or kenneling with little opportunity for socialization can foster timidity in a hound and leave their personalities underdeveloped as well as limited exercise is detrimental to growth.

Prepare yourself to give up a big portion of the couch.
FAMILY ACTIVITIES could include participation in Public Service, like Pet Therapy where your well-mannered hound has been trained to visit Hospitals, Retirement Homes, and Children’s Hour at the Library, for example. The purpose of pet therapy is to help someone recover from or cope with a health problem or mental challenge by sharing their unconditional love. Or, simply to share puppy play dates with family and friends with a new puppy. Just remember to keep a watchful eye on the fatigue level for both pets. All activities you share with your hound strengthens the loving bond between you.
